Revisão de traduções médicas obtidas com tradutores automáticos

Abstract

O mundo profissional encontra-se indubitavelmente dependente da tecnologia. Obviamente, a Tradução não é exceção, sendo cada vez mais difícil negar a importância que ferramentas como as bases de dados terminológicas assumem nesta área. Apesar de ainda existir alguma aversão da parte dos profissionais de tradução em recorrer a tradutores automáticos, o número de tradutores a trabalhar (quase exclusivamente) em revisão de textos obtidos através dessa forma tem vindo a aumentar. Sendo verdade que a qualidade deste tipo de tradução tem sofrido interessantes melhorias nos últimos anos, é sempre relevante relembrar que a importância de rever textos obtidos desta maneira é acrescida, especialmente quando se trata de um texto técnico, nomeadamente de caráter médico. Assim, torna-se pertinente esclarecer questões como: até que ponto se pode recorrer a um tradutor automático em tradução especializada, qual o tipo de revisão mais adequado a situações deste género... Neste projeto, procura-se responder a essas e outras perguntas através da inserção de um mesmo texto de partida em dois tradutores automáticos online, procedendo-se depois à análise e justificação dos resultados. Tal é feito após se esclarecer pontos como a revisão para tradutores e quais as diferenças entre os sistemas de tradução automática atualmente disponíveis no mercado.

The professional world is undoubtedly dependent on technology. Of course, Translation is no exception, and it is becoming more and more difficult to deny the importance of CAT tools such as terminology databases in this field. Although there is still some reluctance on the part of translators to use machine translators, the number of translators working (almost exclusively) on proofreading texts obtained through machine translators has been increasing. While it is true that the quality of this type of translation has undergone interesting improvements in recent years, it is always relevant to remember that the importance of revising texts obtained through machine translators is bigger, especially when dealing with a technical text, namely a medical one. Thus, it becomes pertinent to clarify questions such as: to what extent one can use an automatic translator in specialized translation, which type of revision is best suited to situations of this kind... In this project, these and other questions are answered by inserting the same source text into two online machine translators, and then proceeding to the analysis and justification of the results. This is done after clarifying topics such as proofreading for translators and the differences between the machine translation systems currently available on the market.
