A unificação alemã na imprensa periódica portuguesa de referência

Abstract

O presente trabalho, desenvolvido no contexto do continuado interesse, dentro e fora das fronteiras alemãs, em estudos sobre a união dos dois Estados Alemães em 1990, procura pôr em evidência as principais tendências que nortearam a recepção da Unificação alemã na imprensa periódica portuguesa de referência. Este estudo, que partiu da consulta, selecção e posterior análise crítica de mais de uma centena de notícias, artigos de opinião, crónicas, reportagens, entrevistas e editoriais, publicados nos semanários Expresso e O Independente, e no diário Público, entre Julho e Dezembro de 1990, debruçase essencialmente sobre o tratamento de que o tema da Unificação Alemã foi alvo nos referidos jornais. O presente estudo apresenta-se dividido em quatro partes: a contextualização histórica, com especial incidência sobre os principais acontecimentos que marcaram a actualidade alemã em 1990; a caracterização do perfil dos periódicos que são objecto de estudo; a análise dos textos coligidos, que constitui a parte fundamental deste trabalho; e, por fim, a apresentação das considerações finais. Sendo este um estudo de recepção, que visa sublinhar o diálogo intercultural patente na forma como Portugal e os portugueses olharam a Unificação alemã, revelou-se fundamental a leitura das reflexões desenvolvidas, no âmbito da Estética da Recepção, por Hans Robert Jauss e, no âmbito da Imagologia Comparada, por Daniel-Henri Pageaux. Dado que este trabalho não se circunscreve apenas ao domínio da Literatura, tornou-se necessária a sua contextualização no âmbito da Medienkulturwissenschaft.

ABSTRACT: The present work, developed on the scope of the continuous interest, in and outside the German borders, on the research into the union of the two German States in 1990, envisages highlighting the main tendencies that guided the reception of the German Unification in the quality Portuguese periodical press. This thesis, which was based on the survey, selection and critical analysis of more than a hundred news reporting, opinion articles, chronicles, reportages, interviews and editorials, published in the weekly Expresso and O Independente, and in the daily Público, between July and December 1990, focuses on the way the theme of the German Unification was dealt with in the mentioned newspapers. The presented study is divided in four parts: the historical contextualization through the special look at the main events that marked the German reality in 1990; the characterization of the selected broadsheets’ profile; the analysis of the collected texts, which is the main part of this thesis; and, lastly, the presentation of the conclusions. As this is a reception study, which emphasizes the intercultural dialogue shown in the way Portugal and the Portuguese people looked at the German Unification, the reading of the theories developed by Hans Robert Jauss in the Reader- Response Criticism field and by Daniel-Henri Pageaux in the Comparative Imagology field was essential. Since this work does not limit itself to the field of Literature, it was necessary its contextualisation in the scope of the Medienkulturwissenschaft.
