Mobilidade sustentável em bicicleta: o caso de Águeda

Abstract

O conceito da mobilidade sustentável, particularmente em bicicleta, reúne a atenção das mais diversas entidades políticas, académicas e civis. A mitigação da perniciosidade proveniente do excesso de motorização é um dos grandes desafios contemporâneos, justificando a necessidade do envolvimento de diversos atores em diversos níveis sociais. Devido ao corrente monopólio da quota modal pelo transporte motorizado individual, tornou-se evidente que terá de ser dada a primazia a outras soluções, com o objetivo de diminuir as consequências da situação vigente, em âmbitos como a poluição ambiental, a sinistralidade rodoviária, a saúde pública e a dedicação excessiva de espaço público urbano. A bicicleta oferece um transporte barato, rápido e eficiente, assim como contribui, para a sociedade e para os seus utilizadores, com uma panóplia de benefícios comprovados. Adicionalmente, é considerada como o meio de transporte mais divertido e libertador. O presente relatório de estágio centra-se no tema da mobilidade sustentável em bicicleta, aplicado a este caso de estudo que é Águeda. É composto por uma revisão bibliográfica, pesquisa histórica e hodierna desta temática, caracterização da realidade aguedense ao nível físico e social, avaliação crítica e elaboração de propostas consequentes. São ainda explanados todos os trabalhos requeridos, dentro deste âmbito e realizados durante o período de estágio, de modo a adscrever estes ao foco e objetivos principais. Considero que em Águeda está presente um potencial para o aumento do uso da bicicleta como meio de transporte, que necessita de ser promovido ao alavancar as mais-valias já existentes, referentes a infraestruturas, cultura, história ou capital social.

The concept of sustainable mobility, especially when done by bicycle, has gathered the attention of multiple political, academical and civilian entities. The mitigation of the perniciousness that comes along with the excessive motorization is one of the major and contemporaneous challenges we face, constituting a necessity for the engagement of multiple stakeholders from different social roles. Due to the current monopoly of the modal split by the individual motorized transport, it has become evident that the primacy must be given to other means, with the intent of diminishing the consequences of the prevailing direction, reaching fields like environmental pollution, road mortality, public health and the excessive allocation of public urban space. The bicycle provides a cheap, fast and efficient transport, that also contributes, to the society and to its users, with an array of proven benefits. Moreover, it is considered as the funnest and the most liberator mean of transportation. This present report focuses on the concept of sustainable mobility by bicycle, applied to this case study which is the region of Águeda. It’s compromised of a literature review, a historical and modern research of this provided concept, a characterization of Águeda’s reality in the physical and social realms, a critical evaluation and the elaboration of consequent proposals. Furthermore, other requested tasks that were within the scope and done within the workplace timeframe, are added to the focus and prime objectives. The outcome reflects that in the region of Águeda is present a potential for increasing the use of the bicycle as a means of transportation, which needs to be promoted by levering the existent assets such as infrastructures, culture, history and social capital.
