Síntese e análise integrada dos estudos efectuados sobre recursos naturais da Região da Ria de Aveiro

Abstract

Na presente dissertação é realizada uma análise integrada dos estudos que têm sido efectuados sobre os recursos naturais da região da Ria de Aveiro. Na primeira parte da dissertação, uma rápida história da formação da laguna; citam-se algumas das principais características físicas e geológicas da Ria; mencionam-se as actividades económicas que se exercem na própria laguna e na sua beirada, realçando-se a influência que o bom estado do complexo lagunar tem para a prosperidade da região; são ainda referidos os recursos naturais disponíveis na região assim como as suas aplicações, quer em termos industriais quer em termos de benefícios para os seus habitantes. Numa segunda parte da dissertação é apresentada a análise da situação ambiental da própria laguna, focando, essencialmente, os grandes problemas ambientais e possíveis soluções. É tratada, em particular, a situação gerada pelo Complexo Industrial de Estarreja, dando especial atenção a duas Indústrias, casos, referidos nas Jornadas da Ria de Aveiro realizadas em 1985. Para cumprir os objectivos da investigação, procedeu-se ao levantamento de toda a informação existente sobre a área em estudo que permitiu estabelecer um quadro actualizado da mesma. Numa segunda fase, foi feita a análise e o tratamento da informação colhida e visita a alguns locais, nomeadamente esteiros, zona industrial e lixeiras a fim de colmatar alguma falta de informação existente e reconhecimento da área. Numa terceira fase foram identificados os grandes problemas ambientais que afectam este ecossistema e a definição de estratégias que permitam a gestão dos recursos existentes. Finalmente, é sugerida a reutilização de resíduos industriais e/ou tratamento dos mesmos de forma a poder contribuir com o desenvolvimento sustentável e para a redução de impactos ambientais negativos.

ABSTRACT: In the present thesis a comprehensive and integrated analysis of the studies made so far on the resources of the region “Ria de Aveiro” has been carried out. The first section of the thesis contemplates a brief history of the lagoon’s formation, some of its main physical and geological characteristics are mentioned, as well as, the economical activities that take place in the lagoon itself and its surroundings. The focus is on the influence that the good conditions of the lagoon have on the region’s prosperity. The available natural resources of the region as well as its industrial use and benefits for the living standards of its inhabitants are also referred to. In the second section of the thesis a brief analysis of the environmental situation of the Aveiro’s lagoon, is presented, taking into consideration its most interesting environmental problems and possible solutions. The situation caused by the Industrial Complex of Estarreja, especially in relation to two Industrial plants, as referred to in the “Jornadas da Ria de Aveiro”, 1985, is analysed. In order to meet the objectives of this investigation, a survey of all the existing information concerning the area under study has been carried out in order to establish a framework for it. Secondly, the analysis and the data handling, as well as, tours to some areas of the “Ria de Aveiro”, such as “esteiros” and industrial park has been carried out. Then the most relevant environmental problems that have a direct effect on the ecosystem and the definition of strategies for management of existing resources were identified. Finally, suggestions are put forward related to the recycling of industrial residuals and/or treatment of the same residuals, so as to contribute to the sustainable development and the reduction of negative environmental impacts on the region.
