Since the ends of the XIX century that the importance of History of Science is recognised in science teaching. Today still, the educational research defends that this component should not be excluded from science teaching. Thus, the intention was to develop a study structured mainly in three phases: the first one, whose objectives were the analysis of the importance of the History of Science in science teaching, the analysis of the syllabus of the 8º and 10º degrees and of the schoolbooks of the 10º degree; the second one, in which it was intended to develop one "historical monography" about the evolution of electricity until the XVIII century and to make the analysis of Alessandro Volta’s contributes; finely, in the third one, a methodological proposal was made within a constructivist view, to help teachers in their approach to the thematic unity "Electrical Current" under a historical perspective. The investigation done with schoolbooks was framed in the dimension of analysis "History of Science". The results of this study reveal that the syllabus recognises the importance of the History of Science component in Science Teaching, both in Basic or Secondary level. However, it is in the syllabus of the Secondary level that the references to that component appear more frequently and in better quality. About the schoolbooks it can be said that they "fail", almost in their majority for the omission with respect to historical contexts. Despite the methodological proposal had not been put to practice it seems that can be used either in Basic level (in a more practical way) or in the Secondary level (in a more abstract way). It seems therefore important that studies should be developed, that they should involve the History of Science and that this component should be a part of the formation of the science teacher at their beginning. Like this, they would have tools to develop more efficient strategies to create a deeper interest in their students, once they’re the citizens of the future.
