Museums have been changing and gaining increasing importance as attraction elements at the tourist destinations level. The change in the museum concept is also reflected in the management paradigm. The strategies used are increasingly equivalent to those of for-profit organizations, although this is not their main purpose. The problem of this work is to perceive the impact that the additional services have on the museums performance and, for this, a review of the literature was elaborated, as well as an empirical study was developed directed to the museums representatives. Nine semi-structured and face-to-face interviews were conducted and documentary information provided by each of the museums was analyzed. In this work, we considered services such as the activities that museums offer to their visitors, such as the educational service, the stores, the spaces, the restaurant or the café, among others. After analyzing all the information, it is concluded that not only does the museum provide services, but the museum itself can be one of the services of a larger entity; the most frequent services are the educational service and the motor accessibility to the museum space. Although services have an increasing impact on the museum's own revenues, the museum ticket office remains the main source of revenue. Even so, it is the support of the founders or the funding of the founders who finance and sustain the functioning of museums. |
