ABSTRACT: There's an ongoing increasing concern about worldwide resources. Freshwater is one of the most important resources and, therefore, it is vital to optimize it's consumption. It is the intent of this work to study a new system, composed by a mixer valve with a water-saving device. Freshwater entering the mixer from the hot stream that hasn't yet reached the desired temperature is diverted to a reservoir, thus preventing its waste. This operation is achieved by means of a temperature sensing bulb. The stored water in the reservoir is then available to a cold water request on the mixer valve. The modelling of this system is made in a non-casual language (Modelica) and its simulation on the MatLab/Simulink environment, using a modified Rosenbrock formula of second order. By analysing the results of different situations it will be possible to assess this system's surplus value when compared to a usual mixer valve. The first results show that this system is able to save up to 80% of the total volume usually wasted. | por |
