A representação do povo em Amanhã de Abel Botelho e Os Reinegros de Alves Redol

Abstract

Estudar dois escritores um pouco esquecidos da actualidade literária, como Abel Botelho - séculos XM e XX - e Alves Redol - século XX -, afastados no tempo e opostos nas suas formas de pensar e agir, na sua trajetória literária - Naturalisme Decadentista e Neo-Realismo -, bem como na sua forma de encarar a arte romanesca, constituiu O objectivo principal da presente dissertação. Partindo, assim, da análise das obras Amanha e Os Reinegros, revestindo-se estas de certa importância, visto que, classificadas de «obras proletárias», foram as únicas no seu género, pretendeu-se estudar a miséria social em que vivia O povo - a massa ' trabalhadora - nas suas várias vertentes moral, económica, política e física. Para tal, e estabelecendo um ponto de contacto entre ambos os romancistas, tentou-se retirar das respectivas obras aspectos vivenciais quotidianos representativos da precariedade e pobreza em que mergulhavam as camadas populares, retratando-se assim os males da época. Neste sentido, problemas sociais, económicos e morais e políticos, vividos por aquelas, serão factos importantes para a compreensão de ambas as diegeses, bem como para a justificação da designação de (( romances proletários ». Males como a prostituição, O alcoolismo, a exploração da mão-de-obra infantil, O desemprego, a ausência de regalias sociais para os trabalhadores, a vagabundagem, a precariedade na habitação e na higiene, entre outros, traduzir-se-á num verdadeiro espelho da miséria que avassalava O povo. Nesta perspectiva, e tendo em conta as correntes ideológicas retratadas em cada uma das obras - O socialisme em Amanha, e a Republica n'Os Reinegros -, O avanço dos movimentos sindicais e a luta pelos direitos humanos, assistir-se-á em ambos os universos romanescos a gradual tomada de consciência politica do proletário por um mundo melhor. Veremos, pois, essa luta tomar várias formas como greves, reuniões secretas, assaltos armados, zaragatas, comícios, etc.

To study two writers hast forgotten by the actual criticism, Abel Botelho - 19 th and 20 th centuries - and Alves Red01 - 20 th century -, separated in time and opposed in their forms of thinking and acting, in their literq trajectory - decadent Naturalism and Neo-Reâlism. -, as well as in their forms of facing the literary art, this constituted the main objective of the present dissertation. Starting with the analysis of the novels Amanha and Os Reinegros, which were covered of a certain importance, because, being classified of «proletarian workm, they were the only ones in their kind, 1 intended to study the social poverty in which the people lived - the hard-working class - in their several aspects: mords, economics, politics and physics. Establishing a point of contact between both novelists, 1 have tried to analyse in each work some aspects of the quotidian life which were representative of the precarious work and poverty in which the populas classes lived, being portrayed like this the evils of the time. In this sense, social, economical, moral and political problems, lived by the characters, will be important elements for the understanding of both works, as well as for the justification of the designation of «proletarian novels~E. vils as prostitution, alcoholism, exploration of the infantile labor, unemployment, the absence of social prîvileges for the workers, the vagabondage, the poverty in the habitation and in the hygiene, among others, will show a ime mlrror of the poverîy that enslaved the people. In this perspective, considering the ideological currents portrayed in each one of the works - the socialism in Amanha, and the Republic in Os Reinegros -, the progress of the syndical movements and the fight for the human rights, in both literary universes we can observe the gradual awakening of the proletarian's political conscience for a better world. We will see, therefore, that fight to take several fonns as strikes, secret meetings, armed assaults, assemblies, etc.
