Interesses dos alunos pelas ciências naturais em diferentes níveis de ensino

Abstract

A educação da ciência revelou-se, na última década, uma das grandes prioridades em muitos países. Por consequência, surgiu a importância de procurar e estudar indicadores de interesse dos alunos nessa área, tornando-se um dos principais alvos de estudos das comunidades de pesquisa em educação científica. O presente relatório de estágio resulta de uma investigação realizada no âmbito de duas unidades curriculares inseridas no Mestrado em Ensino de Biologia e Geologia no 3.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico e no Ensino Secundário da Universidade de Aveiro: Prática de Enino Supervisionada e Seminário em Didática da Biologia e Geologia. A investigação contou com a participação de 110 alunos de várias turmas do 2.º 8.º e 10.º anos de escolaridade de um agrupamento de escolas público, em Portugal. O estudo tem como finalidade analisar os interesses dos alunos relativamente à área das Ciências Naturais ao longo do seu progresso escolar e compreender os fatores que os despertam e influenciam. Os resultados obtidos indicam que existe uma disparidade de interesses dos alunos que frequentam diferentes níveis de ensino, sendo que os níveis de interesse diminuem do 2.º ano para o 8.º ano e no 10.º ano existe uma significativa subida dos níveis de interesse. Verificou-se que a preferência dos alunos em seguir uma carreira científica acompanha as diferenças referidas anteriormente. Os alunos consideram a disciplina interessante e reconhecem a sua importância no quotidiano, a níveis pessoal e social, especialmente no futuro, mas não aparentam estar totalmente interessados na disciplina. Os interesses que os alunos desenvolvem pela disciplina de Ciências Naturais está relacionado com fatores tais como os conteúdos que são abordados, mas principalmente com a metodologia utilizada pelos professores na sala de aula.

Science education has proved to be a top priority in many countries in the last decade. Consequently, the importance of searching for and studying indicators of students' interest in this area has emerged, becoming one of the main research targets of research communities in science education. The present internship report is the result of an investigation carried out in two curricular units inserted in the Master's Degree in Biology and Geology Teaching in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and Secondary Education of the University of Aveiro: Supervised Teaching Practice and Seminar in Didactics of Biology and Geology. The research had the participation of 110 students from various classes of the 2nd 8th and 10th years of schooling of a group of public schools in Portugal. The purpose of the study is to analyze students' interests in the area of Natural Sciences throughout their school progress and to understand the factors that awaken and influence them. The results indicate that there is a disparity in interests of students attending different levels of education, with interest levels decreasing from the 2nd year to the 8th year and in the 10th year there is a significant increase in the levels of interest. It was verified that the students' preference to follow a scientific career accompanies the differences mentioned above. Students consider the class interesting and recognize their importance in everyday life, at personal and social levels, especially in the future, but do not appear to be fully interested. The interests that the students develop for the class of Natural Sciences is related to factors such as the subjects taught, but mainly with the methodology used by the teachers in the classroom.
