A abordagem intercultural em aula de inglês no 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico: o acolhimento do outro

Abstract

O relatório que aqui se apresenta baseia-se num projeto de investigação-ação, desenvolvido numa turma do 3.º ano do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, no contexto da disciplina de Inglês, apresentando os seguintes objetivos nucleares: compreender como pode a realização de atividades de educação para a diversidade linguística, cultural e religiosa em aula de inglês contribuir para o desenvolvimento da competência comunicativa intercultural e analisar o papel do trabalho em torno da competência comunicativa intercultural na educação para a cidadania. Ao longo do nosso projeto, propusemo-nos desenvolver a competência comunicativa intercultural, ancorada em três dimensões – conhecimentos, capacidades e atitudes. Para tal, baseámo-nos em atividades elaboradas a partir de multicultural picturebooks. No final do projeto, concluímos que os/as alunos/as ampliaram os saberes sobre línguas, culturas e o mundo; manifestaram abertura e respeito pelo Outro; desenvolveram capacidades inferenciais e criativas; reconheceram que os aspetos que unem todos os seres humanos são superiores aos aspetos que os dividem; manifestaram abertura e desejo de interação com o Outro e foram capazes de propor formas de acolher e de interagir com pessoas de outras comunidades linguísticas e culturais. Concluímos, igualmente, que é possível e desejável articular o ensino de conteúdos de língua inglesa com uma abordagem intercultural, e que o desenvolvimento da competência comunicativa intercultural contribui decisivamente para a formação de cidadão/ãs capazes de acolher o Outro e de celebrar a diversidade.

This report is based on an action-research project, carried out on a group of children in 3rd grade of primary education, in the context of the English class, aiming: to understand how the carrying out of activities of education for linguistic, cultural and religious diversity in the English class can contribute to the development of the intercultural communicative competence, and to analyse the role of intercultural activities in citizenship education. Throughout the project, we aimed to develop the intercultural communicative competence anchored in three dimensions – knowledge, skills and attitudes. For this purpose, we carried out activities based on multicultural picturebooks. In the end of the project, we have concluded that the students developed knowledge about languages, cultures and the world; demonstrated openness and respect to others; developed inferential and creative skills; understood that the values unifying all human beings are greater than those setting them apart; demonstrated openness and desire to interact with others, and were able to propose ways of welcoming and interacting with people from other linguistic and cultural communities. We have also concluded that it is possible and desirable to articulate the teaching of English language contents with an intercultural approach, and that the development of the intercultural communicative competence contributes decisively to the education of citizens capable of welcoming the Other and celebrating diversity
