Wallboards are nowadays widely applied in walls, ceilings and interior partitions. It is important that these plates are lightweight for easy handling by on-site applicators, for lighter loads and also for saving water, plaster and energy in the production process. That can be reached by introducing foam into the plaster paste. In order to generate foams, it is necessary to choose the foaming agent, which is mixed with water and compressed air in the generator, in order to improve the resistance properties of the final product. In the first part of this work it is intended to study the influence of two characteristics of foams, the weight and the half-life, manufactured from several mixtures of foaming agents in the properties of the plates, where a statistical analysis is performed. In the second part of this work, for an extended set of mixtures of foaming agent references in foam manufacturing, it is intended to study the influence of foam density on the mechanical strength of the plates with the objective to predict the behavior of the foams based on the adjustment models obtained in the first part. It is also studied the effect of foams produced on the mechanical strength and internal structure of the gypsum boards, in order to obtain more mechanically resistant plates. It is verified that the half-life and the weight of the foams are not the responsible variables for values obtained in the properties of the gypsum boards. This study shows that the foaming agent to be used should be chosen in a tested manner, as it has influence on the structural strength of the plates. The size and distribution of the air bubbles are the main factors responsible for the structural resistance, showing that the presence of larger voids interconnected by thick walls of gypsum arranged in a more organized way and close manner way leads to the achievement of more resistant plates. The main goal of the optimization work was reached with the reference GFA02 + 12 % FA-403M which leads to a percentage increase of 12,9 % of the applied transversal force and 16,3 % of the applied longitudinal force, in relation to the obtained values with the standard reference 100 % GFA02 that has been used to date in Gyptec.
