Over the years, Zoological parks have contributed to the improvement of the quality of life of animals and the complexity of habitats. However, many species kept in captivity have difficulties adapting to artificial habitats that do not simulate the conditions of the natural environment. This often leads to the development of high levels of stress, behavioral disorders and complications in health and reproduction. The use of environmental enrichment is a common practice that allows the development and/or relearning of natural behaviors of the species. The present study compares the effects of enrichment on the levels of inactivity of the animals and on the spatial use of the habitat, as well as, evaluates the preference of the animals in relation to the various types of enrichment. The study population has three Eurasian lynxes (Lynx lynx), two females (Vicky and Olive) and one male (Bill) in the Santo Inácio Zoo. To determine if the inactivity levels were too high and if the animals used the whole habitat, they were observed at three periods of the day using the Scan Sampling method, after the development of a specific etogram with 8 behavioral categories. The results showed that the animals had a normal inactivity rate (78% to 93%). Enrichment revealed more controversial than expected effects, inducing an increase in the inactivity rate in females (significant variation for Olive, p<0,038), and a reduction in the male (p<0,022). For the enrichment effect of habitat use, it was observed that enrichment induced an increase in time spent in two habitat areas, contrary to the expected. Finally, we observed differences in the interaction and preference of the types of enrichment presented. The lynxs preferred small enrichments, with mobility, food and odor (blood).
