reforçaram as conclusões encontradas no âmbito do primeiro estudo. Destes,
The present study deals with a model of curricular complement (Outdoor Club) based on the research of the surrounding region of the school. Once the characterization has been made, namely the origins, scope and purposes as well as the adopted methodologies and theoretical framing, after having stressed and discussed one of its practices (the importance of wild animals’ manipulation) and after questioning the necessary teachers’ competences to develop similar activities, the developed studies were presented in the context of the dissertation. The first study fell upon the members of the club in previous years. We tried to understand, based on their testimonies, how they had perceived their experience as participants in the club, and how far, after a long time, had the club influenced their present lives. The research methodology was based on a personal interview of a representative sample of eight students, randomly composed from the universe of students who had already been members of the club and who are still at school. The experience of the club has promoted (a) a change of attitude towards the nature by the creation of emotional ties and by the (re)construction of knowledge about the natural patrimony, namely in relation to animals that have a negative connotation amongst the populations, (b) the development of a group of important skills in the scope of Education in Science, (c) the integration of participants in the midst of the group and school. The second study involved the group of students who had participated in the club during the school year the investigation took place. Based on another experimental design, this study intended to verify the results obtained in the scope of the first study, to investigate the understanding of the implications of the club in the formation of its participants and to reflect on the theoretical support model, consistently and systematically, in order to deepen its understanding. We adopt two methodologies of investigation. One of which was based on the direct observation and record made from the systematic supervision of the practices. The other one was based on a questionnaire given to the club’s participants (experimental group) and to a group of students who have not participated in the activities (control group). On the whole, the results corroborate and reinforce the findings we encountered in the first study. Out of these results we’d like to point out the attitudes and personal positioning of the participants, which suggest an emotional attachment to the natural world, questioning the future and the development of an environmental conscience, which was translated into the will to act in favour of the conservation of the biological patrimony. The reflection made around the model of the club has led to its deepening and to a larger theoretical consistency which came from the clarification of the methodological principles upon which it is based. At the end of the dissertation, a deep reflection was made about the whole course of the investigation and about its limitations, and some new leads were suggested for further studies. |
