Consciência e caracterização fonética de variação dialectal em português europeu

Abstract

O Português Europeu (PE) falado em Portugal Continental apresenta particularidades que estão na génese de diferentes propostas de categorização dialectal. Partindo dessas propostas, revisitadas na primeira parte deste trabalho, elaboraram-se dois testes perceptuais. Os testes permitiram verificar que os fenómenos de ditongação/monotongação foram os que mais contribuíram para a identificação e discriminação correctas de seis variantes dialectais do PE. Da análise dos resultados obtidos nos testes perceptuais concluiu-se, ainda, que a ausência de um determinado fenómeno também é utilizada em tarefas de categorização dialectal, como as solicitadas no âmbito desta pesquisa. Para estudar os fenómenos citados, desenhou-se um corpus e procedeu-se à sua gravação, nas regiões do Minho e do Alentejo. Com base na segmentação e na análise do corpus recolhido, foram apurados os valores da duração e das duas primeiras formantes, que confirmaram a presença de variação, quer entre as duas regiões, quer em relação à variante central do PE. Os resultados mostraram uma tendência para a redução do ditongo [6j], no Alentejo, e para o alongamento da vogal [E], nas duas regiões estudadas. Contudo, este último fenómeno apresenta configurações distintas. Os resultados agora obtidos, quer nos estudos de percepção, quer nos de produção, atestam a permanência e a riqueza da variação fonética regional do PE.

ABSTRACT: European Portuguese (EP) spoken in continental Portugal presents some particularities that account for different dialectal categorization proposals. From these proposals, which were revisited on the first part of this work, two perceptual tests were made. These tests allowed us to verify that the diphthongization/monothongization phenomena were the ones that contributed the most to the correct identification and discrimination of six EP dialectal varieties. The analysis of the results obtained on the perceptual tests led to the conclusion that the absence of a given phenomenon may also be functional in dialectal categorization tasks, such as the ones required on the scope of this research. In order to assess the distinctive value of the mentioned phenomena, a corpus was designed and recordings were made in Minho and Alentejo regions. Based on the segmentation and analysis of the collected corpus, duration values and the first two formants values were extracted which confirmed the existence of variation, both between the two regions and in relation to the EP central variant. Results showed a tendency to the reduction of the diphthong [6j], in Alentejo, and to the prolonging of vowel [E], in the two studied regions. However, the latter phenomenon presents distinct configurations. The results thus obtained, both in the perception and production tests, account for the existence and richness of phonetic regional variation in EP.
