Definição de percursos turísticos cicláveis na Região de Aveiro com recurso aos sistemas de informação geográfica

Abstract

A bicicleta é um modo de transporte importante e com uma longa tradição na Região de Aveiro, e tem sido uma das apostas das entidades locais ao longo dos anos. Contudo, a maioria dos projetos implementados têm um âmbito local, detetando-se a falta de iniciativas relacionadas com o turismo ciclável à escala supramunicipal. Nesse sentido, surge este projeto de definição de percursos turísticos cicláveis intermunicipais, desenvolvido no âmbito de um estágio curricular na Comunidade Intermunicipal da Região de Aveiro (CIRA). Para isso, foi efetuada uma revisão da literatura acerca do turismo ciclável e dos sistemas de informação geográfica, assim como foi feita uma caracterização geral da Região de Aveiro. Em termos metodológicos, numa primeira fase foram definidos os pontos de interesse a incluir em cada um dos percursos, tendo em consideração os instrumentos de gestão territorial e a estratégia de cada um dos municípios da Região de Aveiro. Para definir o trajeto ideal através dos pontos de interesse selecionados recorreu-se aos sistemas de informação geográfica. Para tal, foram utilizados critérios que influenciam a experiência do turista ciclável, como o comprimento, o declive, o limite de velocidade e a capacidade da via, assim como a paisagem e a distância às zonas industriais. Nesse processo foi utilizada a extensão Network Analyst do software ArcGIS. O resultado são dez percursos curtos, seis médios e quatro longos, que permitem aos vários segmentos de mercado visitar os pontos de interesse e conhecer a Região de Aveiro de uma forma sustentável, em termos económicos, sociais e ambientais. Para concluir este projeto é ainda necessário a validação dos percursos, por parte dos municípios, o seu teste e a disponibilização dos mesmos na página do turismo da CIRA.

Bicycle constitutes an important mode of transportation with a long tradition in the Aveiro region, and it has caught the attention of the region’s stakeholders over the last years. Several projects have been developed at the local level, although there is a lack of cycling tourism initiatives at the intraregional level. Thus, the development of this project, which is part of a curricular internship in the Comunidade Intermunicipal da Região de Aveiro (CIRA), aims to fill in the gap by defining cycling tourist routes at the regional level. First, a literature review about cycling tourism and geographic information systems was made, as well a brief characterization of the Aveiro region. In terms of methodology, in a first stage, points of interest in the region were selected, according to existing territorial management tools and the municipalities’ interests and strategies. Geographic information systems play an important role in finding the best route to travel through points of interest, combining elements that influence the cycling experience. Therefore, the Network Analyst extension from ArcGIS was used, taking into account the length, slope, speed limit and road capacity, as well as the landscape and the distance to industrial areas. The result is the development of 10 short-haul routes, 6 medium-haul routes and 4 long-haul routes, which allow different market segments to visit points of interest and discover the Aveiro region, in a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable way. To conclude the project initiated during the internship, it is still necessary to validate the routes by each municipality, to test the routes and to promote them in the CIRA’s webpage on tourism.
