Abstract: | O presente relatório de estágio é o produto do estágio curricular realizado
% a 20 %. The present internship report is the product of a curricular traineeship at the Ílhavo Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of AdCL, S.A., having found three specific objectives: analysis of the functioning of the activated sludge system; analysis of the functioning of the aeration system through its algorithm and possible proposal of alteration with view to its optimization; and a study of energy consumption in secondary treatment and turbines. Firstly, it was revealed that the WWTP appears to be oversized for current needs with an average flow rate of 57% of what was projected for 2018. In terms of load, in 2015, Ílhavo WWTP treat 80 % of what was project. In terms of secondary treatment, the WWTP reaches an average annual removal of 85% in TSS, 88% in COD and 94 % in BOD5.The analysis of the operational parameters allowed to conclude that the WWTP operates on average load and the biological system resembles a mixed system (plug-flow and complete mix) with tapered aeration. The treatment of WTTP was found to be efficient whereby, for the most part during 2015, it complied with the limits of legal requirements imposed for the discharge of wastewater. With the exception of TSS’s which were found to be slightly elevated, the remaining parameters were within the range recommended by the bibliography. It was concluded that the algorithm of the aeration system had some flaws leading to the elaboration of two new ones for the turbines, with and without frequency variator. In addition, a technical note was developed to facilitate the comprehension and operation of the aeration system. Furthermore, there was a verification of the energy associated to the secondary treatment representing 78% of the existing energy comsuption in the WWTP and the consumption associated to the turbines representing 60,1% of the secondary treatment and therefore, 47.0% of the energy expenses in the WWTP. Finally, a sampling campaign was carried out on the 25th and 26th of June in section A1 of the aeration tank. This allowed the validation of some assumptions of the new algorithm and the conclusion that turbine 1 presents a yield of 66% and turbine 2 of 91%. The use of frequency variators implied a lower oscillation in the energy consumed, eliminating consumption peaks. In addition, there was a reduction of the energy consumed between 5% and 20% |
