Representações sociais do suicídio

Abstract

Ao definirmos como objeto de estudo as representações sociais do suicídio em contexto prisional, pretendemos efetuar uma aproximação ao que os reclusos pensam acerca desta questão, ou seja, como constroem significado sobre este fenómeno. A amostra deste estudo é constituída por 280 indivíduos, 140 do sexo masculino e 140 do sexo feminino, todos reclusos da Prisão Santa Cruz do Bispo. Os participantes responderam a um inquérito que pretendia explorar e identificar os campos semânticos que estruturam os pensamentos, sentimentos e crenças em relação ao suicídio. Os resultados apontam para a existência de elementos distintos e elementos semelhantes nas representações sociais sobre o suicídio no sexo masculino e no sexo feminino, bem como nos indivíduos que já pensaram e nos indivíduos que nunca pensaram em cometer suicídio.

Defining as object of study the social representations of suicide in prison context, we intent to address what the inmates think about this question, namely, how they construct meaning on this phenomenon. The sample consists of 280 individuals, 140 males and 140 females, all inmates of the Santa Cruz do Bispo prison. The participants answered an inquiry meant to explore and identify the semantic fields that structure the thoughts, feelings and beliefs regarding suicide. The results point to the existence of distinct and similar elements in the social representations of suicide in males and females, as well as in individuals who have thought and individuals who never thought about committing suicide.
