ABSTRACT: Today we live in a society marked by the growth and spread of scientific na technologic knowledge which reflects itself in our daily life. We live in a society marked by change and incertitude, which deeply affects the way we live, think, relate to each other, and our believes concerning the world around us. At same time, during the last decades, we have been destructing our natural environment, in such a way that the Planet may not be able to renew its natural resources, compromising the needs of future generations. In this context, school has an important role to play, developing and promoting the knowledge and awareness skills that citizens need to participate in an active and responsible away in the society. Based on these assumptions, this research on Science Teaching, more specifically on the Biodiversity Area – plants biodiversity, has the following objectives: (i) to know what primary students think about biodiversity (ii) to promote the development of learning skills concerning Biodiversity, using didactic materials which can contribute to achieve the overall objectives of Environmental Education. This research is based on a project work/ task based methodology in which the teacher is, at the same time, the researcher. After defining the object of study, it was conceived a research instrument to identify the student’s ideas about biodiversity. The results showed that students think Biodiversity as an interesting and important theme but they don’t know much about plants diversity. The identification of the student’s thoughts and believes concerning this topic was the starting point for the conception of the didactical resources. These didactical resources were conceived for primary school students. They include practical inter-disciplinary activities; to be implemented in AESAinformal contexts outside the classroom - in the botanical Reserve of Cambarinho. These activities took place in real contexts, in order to contribute to develop positive attitudes toward an active Environmental Education. The evaluation of the resources was based on the student’s reports, the teacherresearcher’s journal and on a final critical reflexion about the process of implementation of all the task based activities proposed. The final results of this project showed the learning skills achieved, according to the goals of the National Curriculum for Basic Education. In fact, these didactical resources provided the students with a deep knowledge and understanding oh their natural environment, specifically in what plants biodiversity is concerned.por
