Caracterização de comportamento de estruturas em alvenaria de adobe

Abstract

A técnica construtiva de alvenaria de adobe foi largamente utilizada nas construções tradicionais da região de Aveiro durante o século XIX até meados do século XX. Neste sentido, o Departamento de Engenharia Civil da Universidade de Aveiro tem vindo a desenvolver diversos trabalhos de investigação de caraterização mecânica deste tipo de alvenarias como suporte às ações de conservação, reabilitação e reforço deste vasto património edificado. Na sequência de investigações até aqui realizadas, foi construído em laboratório um modelo de uma estrutura em adobe, à escala real, submetido posteriormente a um carregamento cíclico, com o objetivo de caracterizar o comportamento deste tipo de alvenaria, quando submetida a ações horizontais. O modelo foi ensaiado ciclicamente na direção das paredes de maior dimensão, sendo que uma destas paredes possuía uma abertura tipo janela. Desta forma foi possível comparar o desempenho da parede de adobe com e sem abertura. Com base nos resultados deste ensaio é possível caracterizar o desempenho destas construções, nomeadamente no que concerne à sua vulnerabilidade sísmica, podendo ser extrapolados para edifícios reais, de maiores dimensões e com geometrias mais complexas, quando sujeitos a ações sísmicas.

The adobe construction was extensively used in traditional buildings of Aveiro region during the XIX century until the mid- twentieth century. In this way, the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Aveiro has developed various research of mechanical characterization about this type of masonry, to support the actions of conservation, rehabilitation and strengthening of this vast architectural heritage. As a result of investigations carried out so far, a full scale model of an adobe structure was built, and then subjected to a cyclic loading, in order to characterize the behavior of this type of masonry when subjected to horizontal actions. The model was tested cyclically toward the larger walls, and one of these walls has an opening - type window. Thus it was possible to compare the performance of the adobe wall with and without opening. Based on the results of this test it is possible to characterize the performance of these buildings, particularly in relation to their seismic vulnerability. The results can be used to predict the behavior of real buildings, larger and more complex geometry and structure, due to horizontal actions as those induced by an earthquake.
