Quatro estudos de caso sobre a música e a identidade em Portugal, Cabo Verde, Moçambique e Brasil

Abstract

A construção de identidades é um processo que manifesta uma forma de estar no mundo em permanente movimento. Este movimento de pessoas entre o rural e o urbano ou entre o local de origem e o local de acolhimento estabelece e define a autenticidade do universo musical com a “música que nos torna diferentes das outras pessoas” (Stokes 1994). A partir do triângulo Portugal, África, Brasil, procuraremos abordar os conceitos de música e identidade e apresentaremos quatro trabalhos, sendo dois estudos de caso e dois trabalhos com pesquisa de campo a desenvolver, em lugares geográficos diferentes, contextos distintos, mas que têm em comum a cultura e a língua portuguesa que, como elemento colonizador, associou-se às culturas nativas resultando assim identidades culturais distintas. A primeira parte do artigo reflecte sobre as pontes atlânticas e sobre identidades musicais, em Portugal, Cabo Verde e Moçambique, em contextos migratórios e no vai e vem entre o espaço de acolhimento e o espaço de origem. A segunda parte do artigo aborda a relação da construção de identidades numa cidade “inventada” e a tentativa de reconstrução de um imaginário rural no espaço urbano.

Identities construction is a process that expresses a way of being in the world in constant motion. This movement of people between rural and u rban or between the place of origin and the local host establishes and defines the authenti city of the musical universe with “the music that makes us different from the others” (Stokes 19 94). From the triangle Portugal, África and Brazil, we w ill try to approach the concepts of music and identity and we will present four articles. Two art icles are case studies and the other two are studies with field research. Although this four stu dies are being developed in different geographical locations and different contexts, they have in common culture and portuguese language which, as colonizer, connected to the nati ve cultures thus resulting in different cultural identities. The first part of the article reflects on the Atlan tic bridges and on musical identities in Portugal, Cape Verde and Mozambique, in migratory contexts an d in back and forth between local host and the place of origin. The second part of article discusses the relationship of identity construction in an “invented” city and the attempt to reconstruct a rural imaginary in an urban space.
