ABSTRACT: Having as a main goal the realization of a recital with Portuguese pieces for clarinet solo, this work intends to establish the bases of knowledge necessary to support a good interpretation. An historical and stylistic research of Portuguese works for clarinet solo led to the choice of three pieces – António Pinho Vargas’s Três Fragmentos, João Pedro Oliveira’s Integrais II and Cândido Lima’s Ncáãcôua. The choice was based on the fact that these Works exhibit the following characteristics: variety of composition techniques; variety of performance techniques and styles; and technical demands requiring professional proficiency on clarinet. In the first chapter, an overview of the origin and development of the clarinet solo literature is presented. In the following chapters a structural and interpretative analysis of the cited pieces is made as well as a contextualization of the pieces in the life and in the aesthetic thought of the composers. |
