As representações dos alunos sobre o ensino e aprendizagem da história : um estudo com alunos do 9º e 12º anos de escolaridade

Abstract

Este estudo apresenta os resultados de uma investigação feita numa Escola Secundária com terceiro ciclo do distrito de Aveiro. A problemática ligou-se às representações dos alunos sobre o ensino e a aprendizagem da História, em dois anos de fim de ciclo: 9.º Ano e 12.º Ano de Escolaridade. A todos os alunos destes anos foi dado a preencher um questionário, abrangendo três grandes dimensões: as finalidades da História, as características de um bom professor de História (CP) e as actividades que fazemos na aula de História (AP). Perante estas dimensões, os alunos seleccionavam as finalidades principais, as CP de um bom professor de História que consideravam ser as mais importantes, acontecendo o mesmo relativamente às AP, ao escolher as de que mais gostavam bem como as que menos apreciavam, apresentando, para cada uma das suas escolhas, argumentos que foram por nós categorizados de forma empírica. Os dados foram analisados, permitindo apresentar os pontos de vista esgrimidos pelos alunos do 9.º Ano e do 12.º Ano de escolaridade para cada uma das dimensões, levando-nos a concluir que existe uma grande aproximação/ comunalidade entre eles. O trabalho foi dividido em capítulos, a saber: após a introdução, o enquadramento teórico (Capítulo 1), o estudo (Capítulo 2), com a descrição do objectivo, a contextualização do estudo, a implementação do estudo, momentos, instrumentos, metodologia da análise, bem como a implementação do estudo exploratório. Finalmente, segue-se a análise de dados dos questionários distribuídos na escola -alvo do nosso estudo principal (Capítulo 3). Terminamos a nossa investigação com as considerações finais, em que se procura dar respostas às nossas questões investigativas, para além da reflexão sobre as limitações do nosso estudo e os desafios que ele nos colocou.

ABSTRACT: The present study introduces the results of an investigation carried out at a secondary school with 3rd cycle (key stage 4) in the district of Aveiro. Its subject was the students’ representations about the teaching and learning of History in two different grades, both at the end of two different curriculum stages: the 9th (stage 4/GCSE) and the 12th grade (sixth form/A-level). All students were given a questionnaire to fill in, involving three large dimensions: the purposes of History, the characteristics of a good History teacher (CP) and the tasks usually done in the History lessons (AP). Facing these dimensions, the students were supposed to select the purposes, the CP of a good History teacher, which they considered to be the most important, as well as, regarding the AP, choosing those they liked most and those they liked the least, giving for each of their choices their arguments, which we have classified in an empirical way. The results of our analysis allowed us to put forward the 9th and the 12th grade-students’ points of view on each of the above mentioned dimensions, leading us to the conclusion that there is a close communal proximity among them. This work was divided into chapters, namely: the introduction, the theoretical frameworks (Chapter One), the study referring its aim, context of implementation, design (steps), data gathering instruments, analysis methodology, as well as the implementation of the exploratory study (Chapter Two). Lastly, we have a chapter for the data analysis of the questionnaires (Chapter Three). We finished up our dissertation text with some final considerations, in which we tried to find out the answers to our research questions and, some reflections on the limitations to such a study and the challenges it posed to us.
