The objective of this work is to evaluate and compare the forecasting power of the model-free implied volatility, the Black and Scholes implied volatility and the historical volatility on the future realized volatility for the AEX stock index options. Throughout the study, calculation methods of the different volatility components are analyzed. The conclusion of this work is that the free-model implied volatility is the best estimator, although it does not completely subsume all information content present on the other types of volatility analyzed, on the forecasting of the future realized volatility, for 1, 2 and 4 months maturities. |
