como a sinólogos do nosso País In the current context of global economy, in which various players, with little impact till now, are emerging, markets like the Chinese market are becoming more and more important. Thus, the increase of commercial relations with China is an unavoidable fact and the negotiations with Chinese companies are imposing themselves. It is a fact that every negotiation means involvement, study, strategy, relationship, communication and commitment. So, it is a process that requires knowledge about our counterpart, namely knowledge about its business culture, especially when we negotiate with a partner from a different nationality. In the particular case of the Popular Republic of China, whose culture is the central theme studied in this work, a high level of attention should be paid to cultural aspects which have influence on negotiations in order for them to be well-succeeded, as Chinese culture is quite different from western culture and has millennial roots reflecting the isolated situation that the country has passed through decades, its subsequent economic opening, its political status and its believes. A different way of perceiving the world leads to specificities very characteristic of Chinese people, who are experts in the art of negotiating. This work aims at studying the cultural aspects which might, nowadays, influence the negotiations of Popular Republic of China with other countries, particularly with Portugal, and distinguishing which aspects still influence the partnership between Chinese and Portuguese companies. For this, a literature review was carried on and the results were analyzed and compared with the information obtained through interviews to Chinese and Portuguese entrepreneurs with enterprises both in China and Portugal and to Portuguese sinologists |
