Perturbações da linguagem na criança: caracterização e retrato-tipo

Abstract

O tema central desta investigação situa-se em torno da compreensão das perturbações da linguagem na criança, no período etário compreendido entre os 2 e os 9 anos, procurando-se, de modo particular, identificar e analisar algumas das variáveis que lhes possam estar associadas e que contribuam para a construção do respectivo retrato-tipo. Neste sentido, privilegiaram-se quatro grupos de factores: (i) fisiológicos, genéticos e neurológicos; (ii) relativos à saúde e aos hábitos orais; (iii) de âmbito familiar; iv) do contexto sócio-cultural e institucional. Como corpus de investigação socorremo-nos de um acervo documental pessoal composto por largas centenas de processos individuais de crianças (anamnese), guardados ao longo de mais de 20 anos de exercício profissional como terapeuta da fala, dos quais se retirou uma amostra correspondente a 630 crianças. Tratando-se de uma investigação cuja metodologia se assume como quantitativa, recorreu-se ao tratamento estatístico dos dados com base nos programas EXCEL e SPSS. Reconhecendo-se a especificidade e as limitações da amostra utilizada, parecem ser, contudo, de destacar como principais conclusões as correlações positivas que se estabeleceram entre esta problemática das perturbações da linguagem na criança e algumas variáveis aí presentes, tais como: o sexo, os antecedentes familiares, a posição na fratria e o uso da chupeta.

ABSTRACT: The central theme of this research work is the understanding of children’s language disorders in children between the ages of 2 and 9, aiming to, specifically, identify and analyse some of the variables that may be associated to them and that may contribute to the drawing up of an outline of their main characteristics. In this sense, four groups of factors were privileged: (i) physiological, genetic and neurological; (ii) pertaining to health and oral habits; (iii) family related; (iv) and related to the social, cultural and institutional context. For the corpus of our research we used personal data composed of hundreds of children’s individual files (anamnesis) (gathered in the course of more than 20 years working as a speech therapist), of which a sample of 630 children was retrieved. This piece of research employed quantitative methodology, and the statistical treatment of the data was made using the programs EXCEL and SPSS. In spite of recognizing the specificity and the limitations of the sample used, we would like to point out as our main findings the positive correlations that were established between the problematic of a child’s language disorders and some variables present there, such as: gender, family background, the position of the child in the siblings hierarchy and the use of a pacifier.
