Jovens cabo-verdianos no ensino profissional em Portugal: o que está por detrás deste sonho?

Abstract

A presente investigação procura contribuir para uma melhor compreensão dos motivos qua têm trazido os jovens cabo-verdianos para uma formação profissional em Portugal. No plano teórico e conceptual recorremos ao contributo de diferentes correntes e quadros teóricos (mobilidade/estratificação/ascensão social, teorias do mercado de trabalho), procurando entender o cruzamento entre perspetivas que tradicionalmente se tem desenvolvido acerca do tema do nosso estudo. No plano empírico optámos por um estudo com recurso a tratamentos diversos (métodos quantitativos e qualitativos), identificando duas unidades de análise: 1º) os próprios estudantes cabo-verdianos na formação profissional em Portugal, com os quais aplicámos o inquérito por questionário; e 2º) o coordenador do Centro de Emprego do IEFP de Cabo Verde, com quem fizemos uma entrevista. Dentre os vários temas de pesquisas habitualmente estudados no campo da formação profissional, privilegiámos não só a questão do acesso ao mercado de trabalho, matéria que é tradicionalmente abordada neste domínio de pesquisa, mas também os aspetos referentes à formação profissional enquanto período de aprendizado e de construção de identidade. Com a pesquisa realizada pretendemos contribuir para a construção do campo de investigação sobre formação profissional de modo a que permita a identificação de dimensões de análise do objeto de estudo, bem como de alguns traços característicos desta temática e ainda de modo a que faça emergir novas pistas de investigação a desenvolver no futuro.

This research aims to contribute to a better understanding of the reasons that have brought the Cape Verdeans youths to the vocational training in Portugal. At the theoretical and conceptual level we resorted to the contribution of different currents and theoretical frameworks (mobility/stratification/social climbing, labour market theories), trying to understand the intersection between perspectives which have traditionally developed on the subject of our study. At the empirical level we chose an study using different treatments (quantitative and qualitative methods), identifying two units of analysis: 1) Cape Verdean students themselves in vocational training in Portugal, with which we applied the questionnaire survey; and 2) the coordinator of IEFP the Employment Centre of Cape Verde, with whom we have done an interview. Among the various research topics usually studied in the field of vocational training, we focused not only the issue of access to the labour market, which is traditionally addressed in this area of research, but also aspects related to vocational training as a period of learning and construction of identity. With this survey we intend to contribute to the construction of the research field on vocational training so that permits the identification of the object of study’s analytical dimensions, as well as some characteristic traits on this issue and yet do bring about new research clues to be developed in the future.
