For the last years, we have been noticing that Portuguese schools are receiving, more and more, students that come from all parts of the world and for whom the Portuguese is not their first language. Therefore, it becomes crucial to sensitize all the educational community, mostly students and teachers, to the linguistic and cultural diversity, once the majority of the schools are not prepared to answer this challenge, especially concerning the integration of these students. It´s also essential that teachers are aware of this reality and prepared to receive and help these students in their integration, concerning all the difficulties that they might have through this process. To make this process of integration easier, it´s essential to know and at the same time, understand, what are exactly the representations that the native students have about the non-native students. Based on this assumption, the present report, has the main objective, among all the ones that were stated, to identify and analyze the representations of the students of school among the foreign students, their language and culture. These knowledge and representations of the students, were analyzed from a survey that was implemented in the school year of 2011/2012, to eighteen students from a 5th Grade class of Elementary School, which is located in the district of Aveiro. Concerning the treatment of the information, we opted on a mixed methodology, simultaneously qualitative and quantitative. The results show us that the majority of the people justify their preference for a certain foreign student because of his first language, and by the positive representations that they have of that same language. On the other hand, it´s also appointed the fact that, the Portuguese are open to learning new languages.pt
