Being a common constructive solution in some countries, green roofs have shown great technical evolution since its appearance, turning now into un increasingly prominent element in sustainable construction, with demonstrated positive results in thermal and hydrological studies. This dissertation aims to test the thermal performance of an extensive green roof comparing it to a traditional roof. From the information collected in bibliography and the analysis of their thermal parameters, a data collection system was installed in a test cell divided into two compartments with the two different roofs and data of solar radiation, external and internal temperature and humidity, heat flux and wind speed were measured. Due to strong sunlight in the south and most exposed facade of the test cell, during the day, indoor temperatures supplanted the outside temperatures and the heat flux was mostly from the inside to the exterior of the cell. Accordingly to the the data showed, the performance of green roof coverage was similar to the traditional coverage for the measurement period in the present test conditions. It was also suggested minor structural changes in the test cell to reduce the influence of solar radiation through the south façade. |
