| pt |
dc.description.abstract | Steel elements have a reduction in their strength when submitted to high temperatures, it is then important to study and been able to categorize metallic constructions characteristics. Hollow sections are not very often used on metallic constructions due to the fact that their characteristics are not very well known yet. The main objective of this thesis was to decrease that lack of knowledge, to do so experiments have been made. Fire resistance comparisons experiments have been made between short CHS sections and short IPE sections with intumescent coating has fire resistant element. For the same section factor used the IPE sections showed a better behavior in the fire resistance tests than the CHS sections. The intumescent coating did not offer the required protection; the level of protection was inferior to the expected. | pt |
