A síndrome autista: investigação clínica e práticas de tradução

Abstract

O presente projecto de tradução partiu da selecção e tradução para português de dois textos em língua inglesa, ambos versando aspectos relativos à investigação e intervenção clínica no domínio da síndrome autista. Embora partilhem a abordagem de uma problemática médica comum, os textos - uma brochura destinada a doentes autistas e suas famílias e um artigo científico original - inscrevem-se em géneros diferentes e apresentam, por isso, uma distinta configuração macroestrutural e linguística. Com efeito, numa perspectiva de adequação pragmática ao público visado, mobilizam estratégias expositivas-argumentativas específicas que o tradutor deverá restituir na língua-alvo, assim assegurando a equivalência funcional do texto de chegada. O comentário tradutológico incluído visa o esclarecimento teórico-metodológico das etapas de pré-tradução, tradução e pós-tradução. Apresentam-se algumas dificuldades encontradas, bem como as soluções propostas, através de exemplos concretos. Por último, procede-se à elaboração de um glossário especializado que reúne a terminologia presente nos textos relativa ao domínio médico-científico considerado.

This project involved the translation into Portuguese of two selected texts in English, both of which address specific aspects pertaining to research and clinical intervention intended for patients with autism. Though focusing on a similar medical topic, the two texts selected - an information leaflet designed for patients with autism and their families and an original research article - belong to different genres and therefore are illustrative of distinct structural and linguistic requirements. In view of their pragmatic suitability to the target audiences, both texts activate specific exposition and argumentation strategies that the translator will be expected to render in the target language, thereby ensuring the functional equivalence of the translated text. The translation commentary included aims to give evidence of the theoretical and methodological issues raised during the stages of pre-translation, translation proper and post-translation. Some specific difficulties emerging from the translation task, together with the proposed solutions, have been discussed. Lastly, we have included a specialized glossary listing relevant terms related to the medical and scientific domain under consideration
