O principal objetivo deste estudo é compreender a
Fintechs have revolutionized the financial sector, bringing with them a new way of providing banking services. Since Fintechs are able to provide the same services as traditional banks, but entirely online, they are clearly competitors. Thus, the relationship between consumers and banking has inevitably changed, and it is therefore relevant to analyze it. The main aim of this study is to understand people's perceptions of Fintechs, their level of awareness of them and the impact of their emergence on traditional banking. To this end, a survey was carried out, resulting in a convenience sample and 174 complete responses. The sample was then characterized and a descriptive analysis of the variables under study was carried out. Independence tests were also carried out using chi-squared tests. The Mann-Whitney test and the Wilcoxon test were used for hypothesis testing. All four hypotheses were confirmed. It was therefore possible to conclude that participants who are familiar with Fintech have a greater intention to change banks than participants who are not, that participants who perceive Fintech as safe have a greater intention to change banks, and that the perception of supervision and regulation in traditional banks is higher than in Fintech. It was also possible to observe that only 32,8% of respondents said they had a good knowledge of Fintech, which may be related to the low financial literacy in our country. As for the reasons for being a Fintech customer, the most mentioned were lower costs and the fact that they provide greater convenience and ease of use. Regarding the reason why they are not customers, the most mentioned were the lack of awareness of their existence and the preference for face-to-face and personalized service. As far as the Covid-19 pandemic is concerned, it doesn't seem to have had a significant impact on the willingness to use a Fintech. With regard to the independence tests, it was concluded that knowledge of Fintech is not independent of the gender of the participants, with male participants having greater knowledge. However, the fact of being a customer or not of a Fintech is independent of the gender of the participants. In addition, participants belonging to the "18 to 30 years old" and "51 years old or more" age groups are the ones with the greatest knowledge and the ones who most say they are clients of these companies. As for the level of education, the results indicate that this is independent of knowledge of Fintech and whether or not they are a customer of one. On the other hand, it was found that participants who are working or have worked in the banking sector have greater knowledge of Fintech, but whether or not they are a Fintech customer is independent of this factor. Finally, with regard to the residence of the participants, the fact that they live in a more urban or rural environment is independent of their knowledge of Fintech and whether or not they are a customer of one. |
