Ficções do crepúsculo : Outrora agora e A sala magenta

Abstract

Este trabalho propõe-se analisar os romances Outrora Agora, de Augusto Abelaira, e A Sala Magenta, de Mário de Carvalho, relevando a centralidade da metáfora do crepúsculo enquanto sintoma da sensibilidade contemporânea. Considerando a integração das obras estudadas na ficção pós-moderna portuguesa, a análise realizada detém-se com particular atenção sobre um sujeito em crise representado ficcionalmente por dois protagonistas à deriva e em demanda num universo deceptivo – e um discurso que se constrói no limiar do silêncio e, simultaneamente, se institui como espaço de confluência transtextual e de resistência utópica a um tempo corruptor.

ABSTRACT: This dissertation seeks to examine the novels Outrora Agora by Augusto Abelaira and A Sala Magenta by Mário de Carvalho specifically emphasizing the relevance of the metaphor of twilight taken as a sign of the contemporary Zeitgeist. After discussing the relationship of both novels to the paradigm of postmodern Portuguese literature, particular critical attention will be devoted to the representation of a fictional subject in crisis, as embodied by the two protagonists adrift in their ineffective quest for self-fulfilment and faced with a deceptive reality. This melancholy mood is conveyed by a fictional discourse built on the threshold of silence that simultaneously encompasses a space of transtextual dialogue and utopian resistance to the erosion of time.
