Abstract: | Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a evolução dos estádios motivacionais e a qualidade de vida em indivíduos com alcoolismo internados num Centro de Recuperação Alcoólica na Região Autónoma da Madeira. Simultaneamente, pretendeu-se avaliar as diferenças entre dois subgrupos de indivíduos: com e sem recaídas. A amostra do presente estudo foi constituída por 24 participantes, divididos pelos dois grupos, com 12 indivíduos cada, maioritariamente do sexo masculino (23 homens e 1 mulher), com idades compreendidas entre os 35 e os 62 anos, residentes em diferentes zonas da região. Foram avaliados através das escalas Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), University of Rhode Island Change Assessment Scale (URICA) e Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36). Os resultados observados indicam que existe uma melhoria nos estados motivacionais e na qualidade de vida dos indivíduos de ambos os grupos após o tratamento e que um maior número de recaídas está associado a um funcionamento social mais pobre e à fase de contemplação. This study aimed to evaluate the evolution of motivational stages and quality of life in individuals with alcoholism admitted to an Alcohol Recovery Center. Simultaneously, we intended to analyze the differences between two subgroups of individuals: with and without relapse. The sample consisted of 24 participants, divided by the two groups, with 12 individuals each, mostly male (23 men and 1 woman), aged between 35 and 62 years, living in different areas. The participants completed the following instruments: Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), University of Rhode Island Change Assessment Scale (URICA) and Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36). Results indicate improvement in the motivational stages and quality of life of individuals of both groups after treatment. Additionally a greater number of relapses was associated with a poorer social functioning and with the contemplation phase |
