Estudo sobre determinantes das preferências/decisões de investimento numa carteira

Abstract

O presente trabalho propõe-se a estudar as características e decisões dos investidores. Para realizar este trabalho foi implementado um questionário de forma a avaliar caraterísticas, preferências, conhecimentos, e perfil de risco dos indivíduos, com uma amostra da população portuguesa, cujos dados se referem ao início de 2017. Passado o processo de recolha de dados foi calculada a aversão ao risco por 2 processos diferentes permitindo avaliar as semelhanças entre os processos. Por fim, foram relacionadas as caraterísticas e o perfil de risco identificado para os agentes para com as preferências por ativos, número de ativos e investimento em cada ativo. Os resultados da análise empírica realizada permitiram contribuir para a literatura existente com uma nova variável explicativa do grau de aversão ao risco (compreensão da relação risco-retorno), permitindo entender melhor o que influenciam as atitudes ao risco dos indivíduos. Foi possível concluir que as duas metodologias de quantificação da aversão ao risco apresentam semelhanças entre elas; que o número de ativos incluídos numa carteira varia de acordo com o género (os homens preferem ter mais ativos que as mulheres) e variáveis como grau de aversão ao risco, género, rendimento e despesas mensais influenciam as preferências por ativos e que o impacto nas preferências é semelhante ao impacto no investimento naquele ativo. Os resultados da presente dissertação são importantes tanto para o investidor como para os analistas de mercado. Para os primeiros, pois permite que estes tomem decisões de investimento em carteiras mais informadas e para os últimos para perceber como os investidores se comportam uma vez que os resultados evidenciam influência de características individuais nesta escolha.

The present work proposes to study investors’ decisions and characteristics. To perform the work it has been realized a survey in order to evaluate characteristics, preferences, knowledges, risk profiles of individuals, with a sample of the Portuguese population, whose data is referred to the beginning of 2017. After the period of data collection it has been computed the risk aversion by two different processes allowing us to evaluate the resemblances between the processes. Finally, it has been related the characteristics and the risk profile identified for the agents with preferences for assets, number of assets and investment into each asset. The results of the empirical analysis allowed us to contribute for the existent literature with a new explanatory variable of the degree of risk aversion (understanding of the relationship risk-return), allowing to better understand what influences the individuals risk attitudes. It was possible to conclude that the two methodologies of quantification of risk aversion present resemblances among them; that the number of assets included into a portfolio varies in accordance with gender (men prefer to possess more assets than women) and variables like the risk aversion degree, gender, income and monthly expenses influence the assets preferences and that the impact over preferences is similar to the impact on the investment over that asset. The results in the present dissertation are important for both the investor and the market analysts. For the former, since it allows these to take investment portfolio decisions more informed and for the latter to understand how investors behave once that results evidence the influence of individual characteristics in this choice.
