deslizamento a seco.
do PEEK, do PEEK-CF30 e do PEEK-GF30.
The use of new materials in technology development permitted that materials such as polymers find a new and quit relevant role in tribological applications (friction and wear) in which the service temperature, the environment with a significant moisture, the high stiffness associated with the low density and chemical resistance appear as decisive factors in the selection of the material. The PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) is an polymer of engineering with easy processability by injection and extrusion, and it has an application in several technical pieces in most varied fields, from biomechanics to automobile industry. When the PEEK is reinforced (with carbon or glass fibres) one can observe a quite significant improvement in its mechanical properties, creating a composite of a thermoplastic matrix with a great potential in investigation. In this work what has been studied is the behaviour regarding friction and wear of the PEEK, of the PEEK reinforced with 30% (weight) of carbon fibres and of the PEEK reinforced with 30% (weight) of glass fibres in a dry sliding. The evaluation of the tribological behaviour of those materials was divided and structured into three distinct phases. In the first phase, a comparative study was made on friction and wear of the PEEK, PEEK-CF30 and PEEK-GF30. The obtained results shows an excellent wear resistance of the composites regarding non reinforced PEEK. The PEEKCF30 showed the best behaviour to friction and wear. In a second phase a thermomechanical model was developed to predict the PEEK-CF30 behaviour related to friction and wear with the pv factor (product of apparent pressure of contact and sliding speed), the temperature and the sliding distance. Finally, and with the aim of analysing the contact temperature effect in friction and wear, it was made an evaluation of the PEEK-CF30 behaviour above the glass transition temperature (Tg). Finally, the reached conclusions were that PEEK-CF30 is the one that presents the best behaviour from all the tested materials (PEEK, PEEK-CF30 e PEEKGF30). The developed model used for PEEK-CF30 correlates the evolution of the friction and wear with the pv factor, the temperature and the sliding distance with a reasonable degree of approximation. |
