O lar de idosos como território social : lugares de espera ou mundo(s) de vida?

Abstract

O progressivo envelhecimento demográfico é um dos fatores mais relevantes da sociedade contemporânea. Se por um lado, esta longevidade se traduz num notável progresso social, por outro, representa um desafio devido ao seu entendimento enquanto construção social. O facto da velhice já não ser considerada um assunto exclusivo da família, enfatiza a importância, na sociedade atual, das questões relacionadas com a institucionalização das pessoas idosas. Partindo do pressuposto de que embora a organização seja um produto de relações formais, de cariz normativo e regulamentador, esta é também uma realidade social constituída pela informalidade das interações sociais. Neste sentido, considerarmos importante conhecer o mundo social que os sujeitos ocupam e reconstroem, a partir dos espaços e interações sociais, tendo em conta as duas faces da realidade da vida no lar, a realidade construída pela lógica organizacional, que é imediatamente observável, representada por via dos documentos e fontes oficiais, e a dimensão informal, relacionada com dos processos sociais que são condicionados ou facilitados pelo funcionamento real da organização e pelo que não é imediatamente observável. Aferimos então que o quotidiano institucional é regido por rotinas e regras aplicadas hierarquicamente, e existe pouca possibilidade de o idoso tomar decisões ainda que estas lhe digam diretamente respeito. Consideramos, no entanto, que, a implicação dos idosos na gestão e planeamento das atividades do quotidiano institucional, contribui para o desenvolvimento de pertença e implicação no lar, sendo que o a integração dos residentes no lar deve sobretudo estimular as relações consistentes de troca com indivíduos que pertencem a diversos grupos, dentro e fora da instituição

The progressive demographic aging is one of the most relevant factors of contemporary society. If, on the one hand, this longevity translates into remarkable social progress, on the other hand, it poses a challenge because of its understanding as a social construction. The fact that old age is no longer considered an exclusive issue of the family emphasizes the importance, in today's society, of issues related to the institutionalization of the elderly. Assuming that although the organization is a product of formal relations, of a normative and regulatory nature, it is also a social reality constituted by the informality of social interactions. In this sense, we consider it important to know the social world that subjects occupy and reconstruct, from the spaces and social interactions, taking into account the two faces of the reality of life in the home, the reality constructed by the organizational logic, which is immediately observable, represented By means of official documents and sources, and the informal dimension related to social processes that are conditioned or facilitated by the actual functioning of the organization and why it is not immediately observable. We then reckon that institutional everyday life is governed by hierarchically applied routines and rules, and there is little possibility that the elderly will make decisions even if they are directly concerned. We consider, however, that the involvement of the elderly in the management and planning of daily institutional activities contributes to the development of belonging and involvement in the home, and the integration of the residents in the home should, above all, stimulate consistent exchange relationships with individuals Which belong to different groups, inside and outside the institution.
