2002).
Baseado nesta perspetiva surge o presente trabalho, o qual procura dar
pedagógico-didáticas podemos desenvolver nesse âmbito no 1.º Ciclo do
profissional?. À luz destas questões, estabelecemos os seguintes objetivos
orientadores: (i) Construir conhecimento teórico-conceptual sobre
intercompreensão, abordagem interdisciplinar do currículo e plurilinguismo; (ii)
Conceber, desenvolver e avaliar um projeto didático em contexto do 1.º CEB;
com as unidades curriculares Prática Pedagógica Supervisionada A1 e A2,
The phenomenon of globalization as well as the commitment to a plurilingual and multicultural Europe poses new challenges to education, in particular to the educational work with languages in schools (Martins, 2008; Silva, 2009). The aim is to understand how a flexible curriculum management, seen as a significant way to build personal identities and meanings (Moreira e Silva, 1995), may improve the interaction of different languages. In a few words, we intend to find out through an interdisciplinary approach and intercomprehension, which place should the languages take in the curriculum (Bolívar, 2008; Doyé, 2005). By doing so, the didactic of plurilingualism can become a reality. It considers the affective dimension of intercultural communication processes, as well as the students’ representations regarding languages (Schmidt, 2011; Andrade, Sá e Moreira, 2007; Castellotti e Moore, 2002). In this line of thought, we present this research study, which intends to answer to the following research questions: Which theoretical links can be established between intercomprehension, interdisciplinary curriculum approach and plurilingualism as value?; In this scope, which pedagogical and didactic practices can be developed for the 1st cycle of Basic Education in Portugal?; Which are the contributions of the intervention project regarding representations/images on languages by students?; and What contributions can we take from this experience for our professional learning? According to the research questions, we established the following aims: (i) To develop theoretical and conceptual knowledge regarding intercomprehension, interdisciplinary curriculum approach and plurilingualism as value; (ii) To design, develop and evaluate a didactic project in the 1st cycle of Basic Education; (iii) To understand the contributions of the project regarding the representations/images on languages by students; (iv) To critically reflect on the developed project and its importance to our professional learning. This study was carried out in the context of the courses Seminar of Educational Research A1 and A2. These courses aim to promote the development of future teachers’ research skills in education, mainly by means of action-research (Bogdan e Biklen, 1994; Dolbec, 2003). Therefore, this project was developed in a close articulation with the courses of Supervised Teaching Practice A1 and A2, which enable the development of the intervention project “Languages in the tip of one’s tongue”. The mentioned project was implemented in a 4th grade class from the 1st Cycle of Basic Education, with which we intended to explore the syllabus of the different areas of knowledge through the use of different languages and by means of the intercomprehension approach. By following a qualitative methodology of investigation, we made use of different data obtained by audio and video recording from the project’s sessions as well as the work done by the students. Then the data was analyzed according to the content analysis methodology (Bardin, 1997). Briefly, from the analysis of the collected data regarding the representations of the students about languages, we can state that students: (i) Recognize the importance of languages as a way to communicate among people; (ii) Consider that it is easier to learn languages that they like, which normally are the ones more similar to their native language. Thereby, they compare the different languages to understand the meaning of the words; (iii) In the end of the project they put Themselves and the Others in perspective, as well as the importance of the languages in a global scale. They show a more diversified knowledge of the world of languages and cultures, which is sometimes connected with their own personal experiences. Regarding to the more affective dimension towards the languages, students reveal a very strong emotional attachment to their native language (Portuguese, for most students) and to English, which they recognize to be used at a global scale. On the other hand, languages like Mandarin and Russian are those for which students show least fascination, since they consider that they have less interlinguistic similarities or sounds when compared with Portuguese. The students’ opinion about the project is that the adopted methodology of work with languages was innovative and fun, and at the same time it allowed them to learn new content. Therefore, this study has contributed to the development of the children’s openness and willingness to contact with new languages and cultures, highlighting the processes that take place in situations of intercomprehension. So, we can say that the approach of intercomprehension, when worked across all areas of learning, gives to the students the possibility of informal contact with languages. This allows the widening of horizons about languages and recognition that we all have a diverse linguistic repertoire, which should be developed throughout our life. As the first professional experience with the world of the languages and cultures, what stands out is the importance of projects like this to our own perception of the importance of valuing the opinion and the representations of students about other languages, in order to identify possible reasons that can be a barrier to the contact with diversity. We have to emphasize that the commitment and interest shown by students allow us to conclude that the didactic options taken by us contribute to the development of children’s plurilingual competence, this happening in an integrated way in any area of knowledge. |
