Ansiedade social e avaliação de expressões faciais de emoção

Abstract

Desde o trabalho pioneiro de Wundt, tem vindo a existir um crescente interesse na exploração da estrutura subjacente à experiência afetiva. Neste sentido, foram fundamentadas duas das principais teorias relativas à experiência emocional: a Teoria das Emoções Básicas e o Modelo Circumplexo do Afeto. O presente estudo procurou reunir estas duas teorias, aplicando avaliações dimensionais e categoriais, de modo a averiguar a existência de possíveis enviesamentos na avaliação de faces com expressões emocionais ou neutras em indivíduos com ansiedade social subclínica. Neste sentido, 84 participantes avaliaram um total de 625 estímulos faciais. Verificaram-se correlações significativas entre a experiência de dificuldades interpessoais e alterações na avaliação de faces de raiva, surpresa, medo, tristeza, alegria e neutras. Deste modo, é sugerida a existência de alterações ao nível do processamento emocional em indivíduos com dificuldades interpessoais.

Since Wundt’s pioneering work, there has been a growing interest in exploring the underlying structure of affective experience. In this sense, two main theories about the emotional experience have been put forward: the Basic Emotions Theory and the Circumplex Model of Affect. The present study sought to bring together these two theories, applying dimensional and categorical assessments in order to assess the existence of biases in the evaluation of emotional and neutral faces in individuals with sub-clinical social anxiety. For that purpose, 84 participants assessed a total of 625 facial stimuli. We found significant correlations between the experience of interpersonal difficulties and the evaluation of angry, surprised, fearful, neutral, happy and sad faces. Thus, it is suggested the existence of alterations at the level of emotional processing in individuals with interpersonal difficulties.
