Morte e religião em "Rio dos Bons Sinais", de Nelson Saúte

Abstract

Neste trabalho pretende-se apresentar uma perspectiva, centrada nas representações da morte e da religião, dos contos que integram a obra “Rio dos Bons Sinais”, de Nelson Saúte. Será ainda feita uma breve apresentação do autor, das possíveis razões subjacentes à escolha do conto como forma narrativa privilegiada, e um breve olhar à realidade moçambicana pós-colonial. Como os contos têm a morte e os seus rituais como linha unificadora, serão também apresentadas algumas considerações sobre a visão da morte e da religião nas sociedades africanas, mais concretamente em Moçambique.

Having in mind the representations of death and religion, this work aims at presenting a perspective of the stories that make up the written work Rio dos Bons Sinais by Nelson Saúte. This work also includes a short reference to the author’s biography as well as to a range of possible reasons behind the choice of the tale as a privileged narrative form. On the other hand it seems important to mention a brief look into the postcolonial reality of Mozambique. As the tales show death combined with its rituals as a unifying line, it is also made some considerations about the sight of death and religion in African societies, especially in Mozambique.
